Bricks & Pavers - Australia's low maintenance building materials. Inspiring home designs & information.
The About Face Design Competition is designed to support and foster innovation and research with Australia's architectural community.
The one stage competition calls for the selected architects to design a project that exemplifies innovation using face brick.
The programme was first run in 2006 and featured a cross section of Australia’s leading architects including Donaldson + Warn, Environa Studio and Kerstin Thompson Architects. In 2007 About Face extended this success as a competition with six participating architectural practices including Donovan Hill, Iredale Pedersen Hook and John Wardle Architects, with the winning scheme by Neeson Murcutt.
The 2008 competition had a specific focus on the “art of brick” and challenged leading architects to re-think brick. The two overall winning schemes from Pendal & Neille and m3 architecture represented two highly divergent ways the About Face competition can be engaged.
2009 Winner CODA and two highly commended entries from Draw and Owen and Vokes, demonstrated for the jury well researched and thorough responses to social and innovation issues, in response to the brief that called for 'socially orientated architecture'.
In 2010 we are proud to present the About Face Award as the premiere design competition within the Think Brick Awards programme.
