Architects Rewarded For Roof Tile Excellence

Think Brick Awards (14/12/2015)

Think Brick Awards introduces Roof Tile Excellence Award and a $10,000 cash prize to go with it.

For the first time in the history of Australia’s richest design competition, architects will be rewarded for building in terracotta and concrete roof tiles in their residential or commercial designs.

In 2013, Roof Tiles were introduced into the Awards through conceptual design. Four Australian architects were invited to propose an innovative vision for the future suburban street, and present a building proposal showcasing that innovation, using tiles.

Following the success of the project and Think Brick’s work with the Roofing Tile Association of Australia, the Roof Tile Excellence category was born.

RTAA CEO Elizabeth McIntyre said last year’s interest in the conceptual roof tile category compelled the new award.

“It was a natural addition to the Think Brick Awards, to recognise roof tiles in built excellence after last year’s welcoming interest in the conceptual scheme”

“We are eager to see the contemporary designs that architects are actually building with the roof tile material and with the ever-growing range that is available, we expect to see exceptional projects submitted.”

The winner of the Roof Tile category will win the prize money and has the chance to win the Grand Prix prize - the trip for two to the Venice Biennale in 2016, which will be awarded to the best nomination amongst the five categories.

All nominations are to be completed online at www.thinkbrick.com.au before 5pm Friday, May 23 2014.
