Best of Brick for 2013 - Think Brick Award Winners Announced

Think Brick Awards (14/12/2015)

Fifteen exemplary projects from across Australian have been recognized in the 2013 Think Brick Awards, Australia’s richest design awards program. Now in its seventh year, the Think Brick Awards celebrate design excellence in the use of clay brick and concrete masonry by Australia’s best architects and designers.

Each of the 2013 cohort of winners have innovatively explored brick construction, challenging our ideas about the use of one the world’s oldest and most trusted building materials. In these fifteen brick buildings and landscapes, brick is used to express the civic qualities of public places, to reimagine much loved historic houses as homes for the twenty first century and create canvases for commerce and research. The versatility of brick is exemplified in each of these projects. In some it is strong, grounded and robust, in others it is graphic, intriguing and delicate.

In 2013 the awards jury considered a record number of entries, the fifteen winners selected from over 150 entries. This impressive body of work was considered by an eminent jury comprising renowned architects Neil Durbach (Durbach Block Jaggers, NSW), Emma Williamson (CODA Studio, WA), Debbie Ryan (McBride Charles Ryan, Vic) and Ingrid Richards (Richards & Spence, Qld) along with Elizabeth McIntyre (Think Brick) and Cameron Bruhn (Architecture Media).

Excellence is recognized across five categories: commercial, residential, urban design, masonry and recycling/re-use. The winners and highly commended projects from the 2013 Think Brick Awards are:
