THINK BRICK AWARDS 2019

3RD MAY 2019
Last night’s Think Brick Awards Gala was an extravagant occasion filled with imagination, fun, a mouth-watering menu, and sparkling entertainment. Held at the Myer Mural Hall in Melbourne, Think Brick created an event to remember to mark the announcement of the Think Brick Awards 2011 winners – the Wizards of Oz brick.
Architects, designers, builders, and suppliers were treated to a dazzling explosion of colour and imagination that took inspiration from the 2011 awards theme, the well-loved 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz. The elegant Mural Hall was transformed into the wonderful world of Oz with eye popping floral arrangements and oversized stage sets.
Pre-drinks in the Foyer set the scene, with the creation of Munchkin Land – featuring vignettes of houses, talking trees, and oversized flowers. A children’s performance troupe delighted guests with song and dance, and provided a fun atmosphere to relax and anticipate the rest of the evening.
Guests then followed the munchkins along a yellow carpet scenically stencilled to resemble the famous yellow brick road into the Mural Hall, transformed into the Emerald City complete with lush green forests bathed in shadow effects and green lights. The carpet concluded at a stunningly designed stage featuring tiered scenically painted flats of the city, with each part of the set bud-lit and treated with reflective materials to create a glittering effect.
At each table was a brilliant emerald green satin and sequin cloth with wild woodland centrepiece incorporating the venue’s lamps with a green leaf lampshade. A glorious floral arrangement of green roses, orchids and glossy leaves, interspersed with yellow bricks transported guests into a forest wonderland, while twinkling emerald votive candles for extra shimmer.
Flanked by two large screens depicting the award winners and Land of Oz imagery, MC Eddie McGuire as the Wizard of Oz kept an eye over proceedings, while Actor and Singer, Tom Burlinson wowed guests with his rendition of “Over the Rainbow.” Well known to Australians for his 1981 lead role in “The Man From Snowy River,” Burlinson entertained a rapt audience throughout the night with a selection of jazz tunes.
Following the awards ceremony, a company of waiters appeared each bearing a specially themed dessert created specifically for the event by celebrated chef, Tony Bilson. The dessert was the crowning finish to a spectacular night celebrating the beauty of building with brick.
